Cultivate Amherst!!
Cultivate Amherst!! (CA!!) is a community initiative hosted by Second Stage | Amherst. The purpose of CA!! is to demonstrate the strength of art and artists as catalysts for development and transformation in healthy communities.
Based on the outcomes of our very successful first Cultivate Amherst! event in April of 2016, we have chosen to focus in 2017 on food and agriculture within the region as a way to open dialog and memory about our shared home, Amherst County. CA!! is creating a series of 2017 events that will celebrate the role of food ...

We have used recipes gathered from you and other County residents to prepare the dishes that will be served at the dinner, which will be served family-style on our hand-made table. We have involned the various communities within Amherst, including the Monacan Indian tribe, local churches, Sweet Briar College, the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts, and other unique communities within the County.
Second Stage is “serving up” good food, good company, and fellowship through shared history, and a mutual interest in the cultural and economic vitality of the Amherst community. |
CA!! initiatives are almost entirely volunteer led. CA!! seeks partners. Individuals and organizations who participate will be those whose focus is on community development and economic sustainability and groups whose focus is on food accessibility and sustainability such as FFA, Dept. of Agriculture, the Health Department, Amherst County Public Schools, local churches, fire and rescue squads, the Garden Club, Sweet Briar College, VCCA, and professionals and students from academic centers whose work seeks to understand the role of arts and food in human experience.
